Ariko is an educational app for children in grades K–6, built by Matteria Technologies LLC ("Matteria", "we", "our", or "us"). We are committed to protecting the privacy of children and their families. This policy explains what information we collect, how we use it, and your rights.
Information We Collect
Ariko collects the minimal information necessary to provide the service:
- Child's first name — entered by the parent, stored only on the device, used to personalize greetings.
- Grade level and subject preferences — stored only on the device.
- Learning progress and quiz statistics — stored only on the device (streaks, scores, badges). Never transmitted to our servers.
- Homework photos — taken by the parent or child for the Scan feature. Sent to our AI service solely to generate practice questions, then immediately discarded. We do not store photos.
- App usage data — anonymous usage logs (questions answered, modes used) collected without any personally identifiable information.
Information We Do NOT Collect
- We do not collect full names, addresses, phone numbers, or email addresses from children.
- We do not use advertising or tracking SDKs.
- We do not sell or share personal data with third parties for marketing purposes.
- We do not build profiles on individual children.
Children's Privacy (COPPA)
Ariko is designed for use by children under the supervision of a parent or guardian. We comply with the Children's Online Privacy Protection Act (COPPA). We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13 without verifiable parental consent. All personally identifiable information (child's name, grade) is stored locally on the device and is never transmitted to our servers.
Parents may delete all stored data at any time by deleting the Ariko app from their device.
How We Use Information
- To generate personalized practice questions appropriate for the child's grade.
- To display learning progress, streaks, and badges within the app.
- To improve the quality of questions and the educational experience.
Third-Party Services
Ariko uses the following third-party services:
- Anthropic (Claude AI) — processes homework photos and generates questions. Data is sent over encrypted HTTPS and not retained beyond the request. Anthropic Privacy Policy.
- RevenueCat — manages in-app subscriptions. RevenueCat may collect your Apple ID purchase information to process and validate subscriptions. RevenueCat Privacy Policy.
- Apple App Store — handles all payment processing. We never see your full payment details. Apple Privacy Policy.
Data Storage & Security
All personal data (name, grade, progress) is stored exclusively on your device using local storage. It is not backed up to our servers. We use industry-standard HTTPS encryption for all network requests. Homework photos are transmitted over encrypted connections and immediately discarded after processing.
Subscriptions
Ariko Pro subscriptions are processed entirely by Apple. We receive confirmation of subscription status but do not have access to your payment information. Subscriptions auto-renew unless cancelled at least 24 hours before the end of the current period. You can manage or cancel your subscription in your device's Settings → Apple ID → Subscriptions.
Data Retention & Deletion
Since all personal data is stored on your device, you can delete it at any time by:
- Deleting the Ariko app from your iPhone or iPad.
- Going to Settings → General → iPhone Storage → Ariko → Delete App.
To request deletion of any data we may hold (anonymous usage logs), contact us at the email below.
Changes to This Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will notify users of material changes by updating the effective date above. Continued use of the app after changes constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
